ABOUT THE WEBSITE or ‘FinD’ is an online magazine created primarily to serve the needs and interests, as well as to promote the works, of filmmakers from the Davao region, and the rest of Mindanao as well.

The website also aims to be a comprehensive online resource center for filmmakers who are considering shooting their videos in the Davao province. These include those from the Philippine islands Luzon and Visayas, and the foreign countries. This objective touts the region as a viable filmmaking hub of the country, next to Metro Manila. In so doing, it shall also connect all the filmmaking communities and agencies within the region.

The portal offers an updated directory of pertinent information on video production, as well as news and feature articles on personalities, projects, and events related to the art and business of filmmaking in Davao. This endeavor shall contribute to the tourism and media arts industries of the region as it invites production outfits and filmmaking hobbyists from other parts of the country and the world. Producers will have access to a database of local talents and companies and shall result to increased employment rate and economic revenue for the city.

Film IN Davao logoABOUT THE LOGO

The logo design is a vector art of a film reel shaped like a durian fruit. The fruit is uniquely Mindanao in Filipino terms, and yet it is also something familiar among our ASEAN neighbors. It is exotic, intimidating, and strong yet surprisingly delicious and rich once one gets comfortable with it.

The logo symbolizes the distinct filmmaking qualities of the talents and the terrain of the city. Davao and Mindanao as a film location can be daunting to outsiders but once they get here, it suddenly becomes home. The films made here are stories that speak the truth as pungent as the fruit’s scent. The filmmaking personalities are as intriguing as the fruit itself.

FinD is founded by the Media Management and Entrepreneurship class of A.Y. 2013—2014 of the University of the Immaculate Conception in Davao City, headed by its professor, Jill V. Palarca, a TV show producer/writer/director, and independent filmmaker, as well as marketing and events consultant. This course project is the class’s active response to help nurture the filmmaking environment in Davao City; to encourage more independent filmmakers, especially students, to produce more work by means of providing them an omnibus platform where they can showcase their portfolios.

FinD is operated and managed by volunteers coming from the University of the Immaculate Conception Communication Arts Program, UIC Enhance the Creativity organization (UIC ETC), and the Communication Majors Alliance of Davao (CMAD), with Jill Palarca as editor in chief. This website is also supported by the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation, Inc.
