GFW 2015 with logos poster for web

Now on its 12th season, the Guerrilla Filmmaking Workshop is actually the origin of the longest running film festival in Mindanao — the Mindanao Film Festival. It has spawned award-winning filmmakers such as GMA 7’s JP Seniel, Willie Apa, Arnel Barbarona, and other Davao film crusaders such as actor Ambo Mesias, and the present Mindanao Film Festival director Rudolph Alama to name a few. Noteworthy directors Peque Gallaga and Arnel Mardoquio are some of its former lecturers.

Organized primarily by the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation, Inc. the workshop received its first grant this year from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

“For many years, the workshop operated generally on the registration fees of the participants. Because of the NCCA grant, we were able to generously pull down the rates so that more participants may be able to join. The grant also allows us to throw in a few more exciting things into the workshop that has not been done before,” says this year’s Workshop Coordinator Jill Palarca, who is also a Guerrilla Filmmaking Workshop alumna.

Open to students and professionals, the workshop will run for 4 consecutive weekends:

Workshop time will be from 8am to 4pm (Saturday-Sunday)

  • Non-Students: Php 3,500
  • Students: Php 2,500
  • Group rates available. CALL US at 0922-8384981!

Fees shall cover modules, official t-shirt, token mug, writing kit, ID, certificate and 3 meals for 8 days (snacks & lunch)

Venue for this year’s workshop is at The Sanctuary in Ma-a, (Address: #13 First Street, Trinidad Greenhills, Ma-a, Davao City)

At the end of the workshop, participants are expected to produce a short film within the month of October to be exhibited at the 11th Mindanao Film Festival in December 2015. In 2012, the MFF Best Film award was bagged by a workshop film for the very first time. “Sintunado” by CJ Liamzon was one of the stories developed and filmed during the workshop. This year’s Guerrilla Filmmaking Workshop is supported by Alchemy of Vision and Light Productions, LouWorks, Nixel Films, and online media partner FilminDavao www.filmindavao.com
