Palaro ng Pagkakaisa screencap1The Palarong Pambansa 2015 has just released its official promotional video and it’s nothing short of the stunning scenery and spirited energy that one can only find in Davao del Norte – the venue for this year’s games.

The theme for the year: Sports: Breaking Borders, Building Peace was perfectly depicted in the music video directed by no less than Gawad Urian Best Editor Willie Apa, Jr. Fellow Mindanaoans Maan Chua and Paolo Sisi penned and arranged the song “Palaro ng Pagkakaisa”.

Davao del Norte won the bid for this year’s Palarong Pambansa, thanks to the creative efforts of Apa’s team, backed by the generous support from the DavNor LGU. The award-winning editor was tapped to produce the municipality’s pitch video that earned the nods of the national government. Apa was eventually asked to come full circle by doing the official promotional and opening ceremony videos of the event.

Apa’s concept for the music video was inspired by the tri-people diversity of the region – Lumad, Muslim, and Christian – hence the starring appearance of quaint characters such as a Lumad runner, a Badjao swimmer, and a Christian football player.

Apa explains that he was inspired by the idea that future Filipino Olympians can come from the grassroots. Here in Mindanao, our tribes have been living virtually athletic lives with their daily activities – a Lumad boy runs across fields and mountains to go to school, a Moro lad swims every day with his father to catch their living. These images are future success stories, according to Apa.

Palaro ng Pagkakaisa screencap2The music video was shot in 7 days across 7 locations that truly displayed the beauty of the region: the Tagum Sports Complex, Tagum Christ the King Church, Talikod, Kaputian, and San Remegio in Samal Island, Panas Falls in New Corella, and the View Deck Mountain of Talaingod.

It also features sports stars from different fields: runner Elma Muros, swimmer Eric Buhain, and Yannick Tuason from the Philippine Azkals.

On board the production crew are equally talented filmmakers such as Wrap Meting and Bordie Carillo handling the cinematography alongside Apa, Raleon Monsanto and Christine Lim for the production design, Maki Serapio for the sound engineering, Onin Flores as Technical Head, and Ramir Bargamento and Juris Elorde for the Production Management and Coordination, with Gladys Ayuste as make-up artist. Of course, editing and color grading was handled personally by the editing expert Apa.

The 2015 Palarong Pambansa will be on May 3-9, 2015.
